Alright I had my TESL interview yesterday at UKM and truth to be told I was feeling a little bit nervous when it's almost my turn. I kept on texting my sister asking how should I say things and tips and all she said was to be confident, smile and have faith in God. Alright to be honest, those of you who are going for this interview should be confident, smile, speak fluently and also have faith in God.
I was the 3rd last to be interviewed so I had to wait outside and it was super hot. I was interviewed for like 7 minutes because the lecturers took too much time interviewing those before me so yeah I got the hard questions. The questions were the basics, like:
1) Introduce yourself.
2) Is UKM your first choice in UPU?
3) Why do you choose UKM instead of pursuing your TESL degree in UITM since you completed your foundation there?
And...they also asked me to speak in BM because they just want to hear it. I didn't expect them to ask those questions but things happen. So, prepare urself! The questions were:
1) Apa pendapat awak tentang memartabatkan bahasa melayu dan memperkasakan bahasa inggeris?
2) Kenapa awak rasa bahasa melayu perlu dimartabatkan? Bahasa inggeris pun penting juga.
3) Kenapa bahasa melayu dijadikan bahasa rasmi negara kita sedangkan negara kita ada 3 bangsa?
Alright so to those of you lucky people who are selected to go for this interview, don't be afraid. The interviewers will be your lecturers if you pass the interview. Oh not to forget, some of them might ask you to teach anything you want, which is basically in English. You can teach those simple topics such as the usage of who, whom, and whose if you want to teach Grammar. You can also teach a short poem, my advice is to teach the poems that you have learnt in school. Good luck!
